The Lineage
The Hunyuan Taiji System was created by Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang. He developed the system from the teachings of two giants of twentieth century internal martial arts and qigong: Hu Yaozhen 胡 躍 貞, Taoist name 一 俠 a famous Chinese doctor, Taoist practitioner, and Xinyi Quan master who is considered by many to be the father of modern Qigong; and Chen Fake 陳 發 科, the foremost practitioner of Chen Style Taijiquan in the twentieth century. Under the tutelage of these two great masters, Feng Zhiqiang penetrated the inner meaning of Taijiquan.
Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang 馮 志 強, (1928~2012), began the study of martial arts over seventy years ago. He is an 18th-generation grandmaster of Chen Style Taijiquan and is widely recognized as one of the greatest living Taiji masters. As the foremost authority on Chen style Taijiquan in modern times, he was instrumental in resuscitating Chen style in its home of Chen village after the Cultural Revolution. As the creator of the Hunyuan Taiji system, Combining the Taoist internal cultivation methods transmitted by Hu Yaozhen with the Chen style Tai Ji Quan transmitted by Chen Fake, further developing its health and martial benefits.
Grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang was a board member of the China Martial Arts Association, advisor to the Beijing Municipal Martial Arts Association, chairman of the Beijing Chen Style Taijiquan Research Association and president of the Feng Zhiqiang Martial Arts Academy. |
Mo Zhicheng (Harrison Moretz), 莫至城, 俗名莫承華 Director and founder of the Taoist Studies Institute, has been practicing and teaching Taoist cultivation and internal martial arts for over 50 years. He has dedicated his life to the study, practice, and transmission of traditional Taoist practice and culture. Mo ZhiCheng is 21st generation Longmen Taoist priest, 2nd generation Xinyi Hunyuan Taijiquan and 19th-Generation Chen Style Taijiquan lineage holder.
