Patterns of Heaven and Earth ~ A Literary Gathering

On Gardens, Cosmology and Poetry

Join us for a midsummer yaji (literary gathering) at Xuan Xiu Gong Taoist Sanctuary, where we explore the resonances between Heaven and Earth through classical Chinese wisdom.

Featuring:

  • Poetry reading by special guest Red Pine (Bill Porter), celebrated translator and writer;
  • Talk by Mo Zhicheng on Chinese gardens, feng shui, Taoist thought, and classical Chinese cosmology;
  • Guided tour of the evolving sacred landscape of Xuan Xiu Gong Sanctuary;
  • Martial arts demonstrations;
  • Live music, calligraphy, tea, light refreshments, and good company;
  • Silent auction (online and in person), concluding at 5:00 PM PDT.

About Bill Porter (Red Pine, 赤松)

An acclaimed author and translator of Chinese texts and poetry. Bill Porter's translations have won numerous awards, including the American Academy of Arts & Letters Thornton Wilder Prize for translation. He is well known for his book Road to Heaven: Encounters with Chinese Hermits.

About Mo ZhiCheng (莫至城, Harrison Moretz)

Founder of the Taoist Studies Institute, Mo ZhiCheng has been practicing and teaching Taoist cultivation and internal martial arts for over 50 years. He has dedicated his life to penetrating and disseminating the essence of traditional Taoist practice and culture.
