Bagua Zhang

Bagua zhang is an internal system of martial arts similar to Taiji quan. The hallmarks of Bagua are its circular stepping and its marvelous development and utilization of special awareness both within and outside of the body.

Bagua zhang, like Taiji quan, is comprised of a comprehensive system of internal martial arts and meditative practices. Bagua zhang is philosophically related to the Yijing, or “Book of Changes”. In its basic practice, special stepping techniques are used to walk a circle, while various coiling methods are used to change direction around the circle. Bagua zhang is as challenging to learn as it is beautiful.

Chansi Gong

The Chansi Gong set specifically develops silk reeling energy, a kind of spiral movement connecting through the entire body. Chansi Gong builds internal power and cultivates the eight energies. In addition to promoting good health, these movements all have practical martial applications.

Chansi or “silk-reeling” Gong is a set of exercises that train the spiraling movements unique to the Chen-style Taiji system. This set also includes joint opening exercises. When the dantian qi is full and the joints are open, the spiraling movements of silk-reeling convey qi throughout the channels to connect all of the eighteen joints of the body together as one. This generates the tremendous power and fluidity of movement that is the hallmark of Chen style.

This class is also available on Tuesdays 6pm, Thursdays 7pm.

Hunyuan Taiji) was developed by grandmaster Feng Zhiqiang 馮志強 and integrates Taoist internal training, qigong, Chen-style Taijiquan, and Xinyi quan (mind-intent boxing) into a comprehensive system. The Hunyuan Taiji system 混元太極 is set apart from other systems of Taiji by its emphases on nourishing the body and the use of mind-intent as fundamental to successful practice. It is both extremely practical and rooted in spiritual insight.

Hunyuan Gong

The Hunyuan Gong set combines Taoist internal alchemy and martial Qigong methods in an extremely effective and elegant system. This set is designed to combine prenatal and postnatal qi to supplement the essential qi of the body.

The most important of the Gong methods, Hunyuan Gong is designed to accumulate qi from the environment and use it to augment our prenatal qi (our genetic inheritance). This opens the qi-meridians of the body, forms the middle dantian (where qi is stored in the body) and thus promotes health, prolongs life, deepens stillness, and increases power.

Push Hands

Push hands is a system of two person exercises that develop “listening” ability and continue to develop the internal energies cultivated in the Taijiquan form. These skills, developed in the solo forms, are expanded in push hands to include another person. Push hands is the basic training for martial application in Taijiquan.

 Eight Sections of Brocade (Standing)

Eight sections of brocade is a traditional qigong set practiced by Taoists and martial artists

 This qigong set is an excellent exercise for promoting health.

A somewhat rigorous method, it is especially good at developing proper postural relationships and increasing strength.

Over time the set has developed many variations. The method that will be presented in this class is effective and comprehensive, incorporating layers of practice from the physically direct to the energetically subtle.

This is suitable for practitioners of any level.

This set is profoundly effective at nourishing, gathering, and stabilizing qi in the dan tian.

The five element linked set strengthens the tendons, bones, skin and muscle. It develops an integrated flow between the elemental movements and nourishes the internal organs.

This is a short set that can be learned relatively easily.

Chen style Hunyuan Taiji Yilu is the traditional first form from which the hunyuan  24 and 48 forms were developed. The longer form includes variations and additional techniques as well as increased repetition of many movements. Practice of yilu  builds on the foundation of the shorter forms providing a continuous unbroken cultivation to deepen internal an eternal skill.

The spear is known as the King of weapons.  Practice of the spear unifies the body, strengthens the sinews, bones, skin, and muscle; increases internal strength; and helps develop the ability to issue.

Internal martial arts; Taiji, xinyi, and bagua all utilize spear training to develop internal strength and the ability to express it. Xinyi quan empty hand methods were developed from the spear. “化拳”

((Fundamentals of spear training will be taught in this workshop. ))

Swimming Dragon is an elegantly designed Taoist qigong method from Hua Mountain.

As well as nourishing the qi and opening the channels it is especially good for the spine, the endocrine and lymphatic systems. With regular practice it strengthens the kidneys, promotes organ health, nourishes the skin and regulates weight.

New Class…Snake & Turtle

Snake & Turtle

The snake is known for its cultivation of qi and the turtle for its longevity.

This set is based on the movements and breathing of the snake and turtle. By imitating the slow long breathing of the turtle, and the flexibility of the snake, people can live long and well. This set is an especially good practice during the winter season.

This is a 12 week course and single class attendance are always welcomed.

Testimonial

As a child, I was diagnosed with scoliosis and intractable back pain. I spent my life seeking help from various healers. Chiropractors looked at my x-ray and refused to work with me, physical therapists would shrug and give me ineffective exercises, and I was even excused from the physical education courses in my school. I stood at quite a crooked angle that created muscular imbalances throughout my body, and one side of my back was 2 inches higher than the other.

I was fortunate enough to hear about master teacher Shoko, and her spinal qigong method called snake and turtle. I traveled across The states to receive her generous instruction, and then proceeded to practice diligently along with several other friends with spinal problems.

The results did not come quickly, they were incredibly profound! Over the following weeks and months my pain waxed and waned as things became unfrozen, enlivened, and joints that were once numb became filled with sensation. However, after a year or two of consistent exploration of the form, the doctors were amazed with the changes they saw. My spinal scoliosis essentially disappeared, the musculature in my back became completely balanced, and my back pain  vanished along with the headaches from extreme neck and shoulder tension.

As a practitioner of medicine, I have prescribed this form to hundreds of patients over the years; and have seen it treat everything from sciatica to obesity. I cannot recommend it enough!
